When you tell somebody a story, you are narrating. A narrative text is a very popular type of document, so in unit 5 we are going to practice writing one where you must explain a crime or mysterious story. The objective is to use some vocabulary from unit 5 (for example: court, hijack, weapon...). In the picture you can see an example from our Students' Book.

Write a narrative text of about 70 words and send it to me before Wednesday, 25th March. Divide it in three clear paragraphs:
Paragraph 1. Mention the incident and when/where it happened
Paragraph 2. Describe the differents events and actions that caused it
Paragraph 3. Conclude the story explaining what happened in the end

Use a dictionary if you need to find a new word, but please, do not use automatic translation websites!!! Remember you can use the general forum if you need my help

2º ESO (The thief of always)

THE THIEF OF ALWAYS

CHAPTER 1. RICTUS
It was a cold February morning. Fourteen-year-old Harvey hated February. The sky was often grey and it was cold outside.
Harvey’s mother opened his bedroom door.
“Good morning, Harvey! It’s time to get up!”
“Don’t be late for school,” Harvey’s mother said.
“Life is very boring!” Harvey thought. “I hate school!”
Suddenly, a sign appeared on his computer. “You’ve got mail!” Harvey got out of bed and read the e-mail:
Hi, Harvey, are you bored?
Come to my house and we’ll have fun. You can go to school after that.
Uncle Jack

Harvey loved Uncle Jack. He got dressed quickly and then he went to his uncle’s house.
“Hi, Harvey,” said Uncle Jack. “Let’s have fun. There’s a fantastic holiday place near here.”
“I can’t go there,” said Harvey. “I must go to school.”
“You can have a holiday today”, said Uncle Jack. “I called your parents and they said yes”.”
“Really?” asked Harvey. He was surprised. “OK,” he said, happily. “Let’s go!”
Harvey and Uncle Jack walked down the street and soon they came to a wall of thick fog.
“I can’t see anything,” said Harvey.
“It’s OK. I know the way,” replied Uncle Jack.
They walked into the fog and came out in a beautiful garden. It was warm and there were many flowers and trees.
“Welcome, Harvey,” said a short man with a black beard.
“Where am I?” asked Harvey. He was very confused. “Who are you? Where’s Uncle Jack?”
“That wasn’t really your Uncle Jack,” said the man. “It was me! I sent the e-mail, too. I’m Rictus.”
“I don’t understand,” said Harvey. “Why did you transform into my uncle? Why am I here?”
“You were bored,” said Rictus. “I help bored teenagers. They’re never bored at the Holiday House!”

CHAPTER 2. THE HOLIDAY HOUSE
“Why is it spring here?” asked Harvey. “It’s February.”
“No questions!” said Rictus. “That’s the only rule here. Don’t ask about the Holiday House, or the people in it.”
The place had a strange influence on Harvey. He started to forget about the outside world, about school and his parents. The sun was warm, and he was happy.
Rictus took Harvey into the house. An old woman was in the kitchen. There was a wonderful smell of cooking and delicious food on the table. A teenage boy and girl sat at the table. The boy was about 14 and the girl was about 16. She had long red hair and a pretty smile. “Hi. I’m Lulu, and this is Wendell,” she said. “Welcome to the Holiday House!”
“I’ll show you everything this afternoon,” said Wendell. “We’ll go in the special car – it can fly!”

After lunch, Mrs Griffin took Harvey to his room. There was a comfortable bed and a big TV. “This is your room,” said Mrs Griffin. “Relax now. You can explore the house later. But don’t go to the attic because Mr Hood lives there. This is his house, but nobody sees him..”
“Why can’t I go…” Harvey began to ask, but then he remembered the rule of the house: no questions!
Harvey sat on the bed to watch TV, but soon he went to sleep.
After an hour, Harvey woke up and went outside to find Wendell. There were leaves on the trees and it was very hot.
“That’s strange,” thought Harvey. “It’s summer now! The seasons are changing very quickly!”
Suddenly, Wendell appeared in a car in the sky. “Hi, Harvey! Look at me!” he shouted. He landed the car next to the house and Harvey got inside. The car went up to the sky again.
“Wow! A flying car!” said Harvey. “It’s incredible.”

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS

PROLOGUE
Nobody believed in the last years of the 19th century that intelligent life existed on Mars. And nobody knew that Mars was getting too cold for a life to continue there. The Martians needed a new home, so they decided to explore Earth because there was water, land and sunlight there. Maybe Earth was the solution to their problem.
The Martians built giant metal spaceships to travel to Earth. One day in 1894, they launched one of these spaceships towards Earth, with Martians inside it. They launched another nine spaceships over the next nine days.
Astronomers on Earth observed the great flashes of light from Mars during the ten days of spaceship launchings. They saw giant red flames shoot in Earth’s direction. Were these meteorites?
Nobody suspected that each flash of light was a spaceship launched from Mars, flying towards Earth at extreme velocities. So nobody was prepared for the strange events that happened next.

CHAPTER 1. GREAT FLASHES OF LIGHT
Ashton Cody lived with his wife, Hannah, in Woking, a small English town near London. He heard about the strange flashes of light from his friend, an astronomer called Ogilvy. He decided to visit Ogilvy at his observatory to see the strange lights for himself.
“Look trough the lens,” Ogilvy said. “Can you see them?”
Ashton looked and saw a small moving ball of light.
“That’s amazing!” he said. “What is it, Ogilvy?”
“We’re not sure. Perhaps meteorites are hitting Mars or maybe it’s an eruption of a Martian volcano,” Ogilvy explained.
“Do you think there is intelligent life on Mars?” asked Ashton.
Ogilvy laughed. “The chance that there is anything man-like on Mars is a million to one,” he replied.
The next night, Ashton was walking with Hannah in their garden. He pointed to the sky and said, “That little dot is Mars. Can you believe that it’s causing all this excitement?”
Hannah looked into the sky. “What’s happening there?” she asked. “What does Ogilvy think?”
“He thinks meteorites are hitting Mars,” replied Ashton.
“I don’t know much about Mars,” said Hannah. “How big is it?”
“Mars is seven times smaller than Earth. It’s 228 million kilometres away from the sun,” said Ashton.
“That distance is hard to imagine,” Hannah said. “How far are we from the sun?”
“Earth is about 150 million kilometres from the sun. So Mars gets much less heart from the sun than the Earth does,” Ashton explained.
“Oh, then it’s probably freezing there!” said Hannah. “I guess there’s no possibility of any form of life on Mars”.
“Well, Ogilvy doesn’t think anything lives on Mars,” Ashton said. “But I wonder…”
* * *
A few weeks after the first flash of light, something was seen flying over London, high in the sky, People thought a star was falling to Earth. The spaceship crashed into the sand near Woking and created a huge hole there. Sand flew everywhere, forming new hills.
Ogilvy saw the falling star. “The meteorite landed in this area,” he thought. “I must find it! I’ll take Ashton with me.”
Ten minutes later, he knocked on Ashton’s door, and woke him up.
“What’s wrong, Ogilvy?” he asked. “It’s the middle of the night!”
“The meteorite landed somewhere near here!” replied Ogilvy. “Come, we must find it!”
“That’s incredible!” Ashton exclaimed. “OK, let me get dressed. I’m coming with you.”

4º ESO (writing, listening and Kahoot instructions)

Opinion essay instructions

The opinion essay is one of the most popular and useful types of texts that we can write on our daily basis. These texts express our views and thoughts about the world and can be found on the internet (forums, websites, blogs...), in the press (newspapers, magazines...) and so on, but they are a really common kind of composition you will need to face if you take your Selectividad exam in two years.
It normally consists of three paragraphs:
Paragraph 1 - Introduction of the topic + short presentation of your opinion
Paragraph 2 - Examples that justify and support your opinion
Paragraph 3 - Summary of the opinion + conclusion
Download the PDF document where you can find some sentences you can introduce in your composition and the example in your students' book. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PrkFVXnnHHorw7jEw79ffTLsBQPbDpAS/view?usp=sharing

Send your compositions before Monday, 23rd March. This time, they cannot be sent as an attached document, so copy or write the text straight on Aules. As usual, it should contain from 80 to 120 words. This time, there will be a 180-word limit.
